Located between Qatar and the northeastern coast of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain is an island country on the Persian Gulf.

Capital is Manama.

Arabic is the official language and English is widely spoken.

Population, 1,866,104. Size, 760 km^2.

Currency is the Bahraini Dinar.

Islam is the official religion.

Major cities include Muharraq, Hamad Town, and A'ali.

National dish is Chicken Machboos, a spiced chicken and rice dish. Principal crops include dates, figs, mangos, pomegranates, melons, papayas, water turnips, potatoes, and tomatoes.

Bahrain has mild and pleasant winters and hot and humid summers. The small archipelago is deserty.

Bahrain is the biggest per-capita consumer of electricity in Asia and the third biggest in the world, after Iceland and Norway. The country is an archipelago consisting of 33 natural islands and an additional 51 artificial islands created from land reclamation projects. The Tree of Life, a single mesquite tree planted around 1583 is found in the southern desert. It is still unclear what sustains the tree as there are no obvious water sources nearby. The Bahrain World Trade Center was the world’s first skyscraper to integrate wind turbines into its design. Bahrain has the world’s largest underwater theme park called Dive Bahrain. Bahrain has no rivers, lakes, or streams. It has the lowest supply of freshwater in the world. Bahrain has the lowest income tax in the world at zero percent.
